Would you like to become a volunteer at Bruce House?

Bruce House works to empower individuals and communities. This could not happen without the participation of volunteers at all levels of the organization.

Our volunteers are an integral part of Bruce House. The agency utilizes the services of our volunteers, contributing over 6,000 volunteer hours annually to:
· Provide service to clients;
· Assist with administration;
· Assist with fundraising initiatives and events;
· Govern and provide strategic direction to Bruce House.

Did you know that 6,000 hours of volunteer contribution would translate to just over $88,000.00 if paid at the same hourly rate provided to casual relief staff working in our House Program?

To become a volunteer, potential applicants are asked to commit to a minimum time commitment (10-12 months), posses or work towards achieving the required skills for their area of volunteerism. Minimum time commitments ensure client comfort and consistency which is important to our residents. Consistent volunteer attendance is required. Applicants must agree to support the mission, philosophy and policies of the agency.

Applicants will have to attend Volunteer Training sessions which include an orientation and basic HIV/AIDS 101 training. Bruce House places new volunteers on an as needed basis throughout the year.

Police Reference Checks are required of most volunteers. This process is confidential and paid for by Bruce House. The Volunteer Coordinator will assist with this process and answer any questions you may have.

Individuals seeking volunteer work to meet requirements for Community Service Credits, whether they are for school (high school, college or university) or Social Assistance are welcome to apply to volunteer for Bruce House, but must meet all the requirements for volunteering, including availability, skills and especially minimum time commitment. Volunteer applicants are asked to seriously consider their availability and willingness to commit prior to undertaking their volunteer activities.

Bruce House is committed to encouraging diversity in its volunteer program.
